35th Anniversary Celebration 
The 35th Anniversary Party was held at the Royal Sonesta Hotel on Saturday, October 11th.
With 150 people in attendance, Charles River Rats old and new alike, had an unforgettable evening celebrating the club's incredible milestone.
The setting was extremely fitting. The event was held in the beautiful Riverfront banquet room overlooking the Charles River and the Boston skyline. A delectable spread of food complimented the open bar very nicely. A picture slide show with photos of the Rats through the past three and half decades was displayed continously throughout the evening.
Michael Fair, Men's Club President, welcomed everyone,
"I would like to welcome you all to the celebration of Charles River Rugby Football Club’s 35th Anniversary.
It is a privilege and an honor to stand here before you all 35 years after this great Club was established.
I, especially, would like to welcome all of the founding members and Old Boys who came before us that are here this evening. Today we pay special tribute to you for being the foundation for which this club was built. What you see before you today is a thriving Club all which is a testament to the hard work and dedication that you all had in your former River Rat years. We have carried on the unique spirit of the Rat in playing this brutal game with great desire and sharing the strong social traditions of this club.
35 years is an astonishing achievement for an organization. It speaks volumes about the individuals who are apart of this club. You all have exhibited incredible individual sacrifice. A lot of blood, sweat, and tears are pored out each week through victory and through adversity. You invest a great amount of personal time and physical effort in training to become better rugby players with the desire to see this Club achieve success.
Congratulations to all of you for your athletic accomplishment on the pitch. Thank you for your tremendous commitment and dedication to Charles River and to the sport of rugby."
Dana Gullick, Women’s team President, spoke about the women's team and thanked Mike Roy for his coaching and his dedication to the team and he presented with a picture frame and an autographed rugby ball.
Scott Wiech, Men's Captain, said a few words about what it means to be apart of the team and what it means to wear the green and orange.
Gary Klencheski, founding member of the original 1973 team, talked about the founding of the Club and his perspective on the Club’s history. He also paid tribute in memorium to those four Rats who have left us.
Neil Foley (Treasurer, Assistan Captain, and NERFU DII Director) said a few words on behalf of the NERFU Board. He also read best wishes from Portland RFC and Old Gold RFC. Tom McKeown, Charles River Old Boy and Burlington RFC's current President said a few words.
Hal Baker, Jay Fredkin, Tom Ruggerio, all took to the mic to pay tribute and Bruce Pulliam sang Green Alligators.

OVERNIGHT ACCOMMODATIONS
The Royal Sonesta's guestrooms will provide a comfortable yet elegant atmosphere for all guests. Offering
spectacular views, all guest rooms feature in-room safes, movies, coffee makers, voice mail,
two-line phones, cable entertainment, video games, hair dryers, iron and boards, and mini-bar services.
Charles River RFC's Special Room Rate: $269.00 (normally $379.00+)
Preferred Rates: Single or double occupancy.
For an additional $50, guests can secure a Riverview guestroom.
For an additional $100, guests can secure an Executive Suite.
All rates are subject to a 5.7% Massachusetts State tax, 4.0%, Cambridge City tax, and 2.75%
Convention Center tax, for a total tax of 12.45%.
There will be a $25.00 charge for each additional person, beyond double occupancy, in the room.
There is no charge for children seventeen (17) years or under when sharing with parents. In
consideration of other hotel guests, excessive noise levels will not be tolerated on the guest floors.
GUESTROOM RESERVATIONS
Rooms will be blocked off for the club until the cut-off date of 9/10/2008 which is 4
weeks prior to the event. If guests do not make their guestroom reservations by this date, we
cannot guarantee that a guestroom will be available, nor can we guarantee that the preferred rate of
$269.00 will be extended.
·After the cut-off date, all rooms that have not been reserved will be released back to the Hotel for
general sale at prevailing guestroom rates.
Guests may reserve their preferred accommodations in a variety of ways:
1) by calling the hotel directly at 617-806-4200 and asking for Reservations;
2) by emailing the hotel directly at reservations@sonesta-boston.com; or
3) by booking on-line HERE.
It is important, in all cases, that you identify yourself as a guest of the
Charles River RFC 35th Anniversary to take advantage of these special rates.
·Rates cannot be changed at check-in or check-out.
·Please let your guests know that all reservations must be guaranteed with a credit card for late
arrival. Guaranteed reservations will be held for night of arrival only. For any guaranteed
reservations that "no show", one night's room and tax will be charged to the individual.
·To avoid an individual guestroom cancellation charge equal to one night's room and tax, please ask
your guests to notify us of any cancellations by 6 p.m. on the day prior to arrival. At the time of
cancellation, they should obtain a cancellation number and retain it for their records.
UPON ARRIVAL
·Check-in time begins at 3:00 p.m. Guests arriving prior to this time will be accommodated as
soon as a room becomes available. Arrangements may be made for baggage storage with Guest Services.
·Check-out time is at 12:00 p.m. (noon).
PARKING
The Royal Sonesta Hotel is pleased to offer special parking in conjunction with the event. Special Event Self-Parking
will be offered at $17.00 per car, and Valet Parking will be offered at $20.00 per car.
Please note that all parking rates are subject to change at any time.
OVERNIGHT PARKING RATES
Overnight parking charge is $27 and this allows guests multiple entries into the garage.
Please note that all parking rates are subject to annual increases.
