While playing for River, Alex was always a strong source of on-field leadership. She spent the majority of her career demonstrating this leadership by directing backline offensive attacks and defensive adjustments from the flyhalf position. Additionally, Alex spent many minutes in green and orange strategically positioning herself as an effective last line of defensive as a fullback.

During her 8 years as a CRWRFC player, Alex was elected backs captain forAlex Schmidt Tackling 2 consecutive seasons and earned the Rat Spirit Award in 2006 as well as MVP for the 2009 season from her teammate’s votes. Some of her fondest River moments on the field where the undefeated fall season of 2007, winning the NERFU cup in 2008, a number of memorable wins against teams that River were never expected to win, and finally her last game in the spring of 2013 against Albany.

Alex, Natty, Cee, and ErinOff the field there have been so many memorable moments it’s hard to pick only a few. Late nights at Punters Pub, any of the trips taken to Burlington, P-town 2008 and the “ year of the backs” 4 years running – just to name a few. Additionally, Alex has met some of her best friends on Charles River and an endless amount of unforgettable teammates, the least of which is her wife Lisa, who she married in November of 2011. She would also like to express her gratitude to a few coaches along the way that have molded her into the rugger she has become; Mike Roy, Carl Morris and Brian Lottridge.

Alex stopped playing in the fall of 2013 when she became pregnant with her and her wife’s first child (due June 2014). She then moved into an assistant coaching role for the fall of 2013 and spring of 2014. Alex considers being a founding member of CRWRFC one of her biggest accomplishments and is extremely proud of where the team is headed from here.

UPDATE: Alex and Natty’s daughter, Natalie Rose Schmidt was born on June 9, and weighed 9.1 lbs and was 21 inches long. Her wing span is massive. They are thinking 8-man.
