Match Recap: Charles River Women vs. Hartford

Charles River Women vs. Hartford Roses 9/8/2018, Week 1

Week 1 vs. Hartford was a hard fought match that resulted in a victory for the Lady Rats. A kickoff from River to the Roses started what would be a non-stop, water break-less, 40 minutes of rugby. River struggled to shake off rust from the off-season in the first 20 minutes, but then began to find their groove as the first half wore on. The score remained 0-0, however at the end of the first half.

A bracing half-time talk from Coach Maggie woke the Rats up, and minutes into the first half winger Rebecca ‘Rx’ Nashett touched down the first try of the day. Once River was on the board, fullback Alicia Scahill and lock Caleigh ‘Cake’ King quickly scored two more tries within the next 10 minutes. A successful conversion by Ashleigh Gilman put the score at 17-0. The Roses responded with 3 tries of their own, and no successful conversions left the score 17-15. The Rats scored one last time from a 5 meter line out down and drive, which was touched down by scrumhalf Katie ‘Ken’ Kennedy. The final score was 22-15.

Our B-Side kicked off at 1:00pm for a 30 minute game. While River didn’t score any tries, 6 brand new rookies started for us, and played all 30 minutes with a Charles River intensity and energy that was beautiful to see.
