Suggested gifts are: hats, gloves, tote bags, perfume/cologne, note cards, picture frames, wallets, toiletries (such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, mouthwash, deodorant, floss, etc.), and seasonally appropriate clothes (large sizes preferable), especially jackets, tops and slacks.

UMASS Boston

For the last three years, the club has participated in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. In September 2005, the club had thirty-one racers and a total of over $3,800 raised for the foundation. In September 2006, we far exceeded our team membership and fundraising goals, with fifty-one racers and $8,825 raised.

In 2007, Sixty-one Charles River Rugby players, friends, family and coworkers particapated raising $7,108.  Charles River Rugby is proud to support such an important cause, and it is our hope that our participation helps increase awareness of the fight against breast cancer.

 VICTORY IS SWEET!

The Lady Rats buzzed into this year's Cape Cod's 7's emerging victoriously as the champions in the Classic Rock Bracket!!

Clad in bee t-shirts and black tutus (Blind Melon's "No Rain" bumble bee girl as their inspiration) they swarmed the fields for a furious day of 7's rugby.  Battling 5 strong 7s groups en route to the title the Lady Rats sweated their way to the top, with most of the team playing for at least one other mixed-team group as well.  Undoubtedly the best outfitted team at the tournament ended up as the best thing to hit Classic Rock since the Beatles' one album.  They left the tournament leaving nothing but victory and lost tutu tufts in the wake, ready to sting the competition again next year.

July 12-  The Men go 2-2 at the 30th Annual New England 10's Tournament. The team fell to a mixed Portland/UK team in the Semifinals in the Plate Division.

Two Rats Reunite in Seattle

by Mike Fair

Seattle, Washington- Yours truly was in Seattle over the weekend and met up with former Charles River Rugby Captain, Jake Powell. Jake is alive and doing well.

So, I had tickets to the Mariners versus Red Sox game at Safeco Field on Friday night. I contacted Jako via text message to try and coordinate a rendezvous.

After a few text exchanges it was determined that, amazingly, Jake was sitting in the same exact section that I was but fours rows behind me.

The shear coincidence was frightening.

Contrary to popular belief, Jake is pretty smart. He's kicking some a$$ in his masters degree program and he will be heading to Taipei, Taiwan on an assignment (Also, many of you know that Taiwan has been my stomping grounds for numerous business trips as well).

Jake, good to see you ol' buddy. Good luck in Asia. Give my love to the Taiwanese folks and "Ni-hoa-ma".

Women's Team Brings Home Some Hardware:

Lady Rats Take 2nd Place at Mt. Washington Valley Bullmoose Tournament, Men's Team Places 4th

June 9-10, NORTH CONWAY- It was another fantastic weekend up in North Conway for the fifth installment of the Bullmoose tournament, where the hay fields become rugby pitches and the ticks and misquitos are aplenty.

ConRATulations to the Women's team for putting on a spectacular display of 7's rugby and taking Second Place in the tournament. The ladies played a hard fought match versus a tough Seacoast squad in the Championship match.

The Men's team lost to Portland 10-0 in the first round of play and defeated Seacoast 20-15 in the second round. On Sunday, the men lost to Mystic River and ended up walking away with 4th Place.

The Bullmoose tournament director said, "Charles River is one of the Great Eastern clubs and its always great to have you at our tournament....thanks again for your support."

A big "Thank You" to Mike Polcaro for once again hosting us at the infamous Polcaro Chalet.

For the fith year, Mike has opened his doors up to the Club and graciously allowed us to stay in his vacation home. This is the weekend that continues to produce some unforgettable (never to be remembered) memories and is one of the highlights of the year.

Rats Win Big at the Texas Hold Em Tournament
By Mike Fair

March 22, 2007- As I went to sleep last night, the clatter of chips being exchanged on the soft felt, the crisp sound of a freshly shuffled deck, and the incessant bellowing of, “Blinds Up!” echoed in my head.

If you weren’t at the tournament then you missed out on a spectacular display of card playing by two of our very own Rats who played in the final table. Josh and Luke got big payouts at 3rd and 4th place, respectively. The top prize of $1500 went to a coworker of yours truly.

Our new treasurer, Neil Foley, did a great job helping me with the adding, subtracting, and multiplying of the copious amounts of cash while Derek “The Muscle” Morin and the Everett cop on detail stood by as the cash was handled. Overall we were quite happy with the fundraising results.

Thanks to all the Rats who anteed-up and played in the tournament. Special thanks to Bugsy for his continued support in the operation of this tournament and to the Lady Rats (Dana, Smo, Annie, Alina, Alicia, C, Colleen, and Erin) who did a great job selling 50/50 raffle tickets
